Single serve, K-cup compatible machines have improved significantly in the last five or six years. However, whether you have a new machine or an older model there are a few steps you can take to improve your coffee experience.
The first, and probably most important single step you can take is to only use filtered water in your machine. And while this is something you should do no matter what type of brewing system you prefer, it is especially necessary for a Keurig type machine. Tap water is processed for safety, not taste. For example, some municipal systems use a fairly high amount of chlorine in their water supply. While this is good for a sanitary point of view, it is detrimental to the taste of your coffee. And single serve machines tend to keep a certain amount of water inside the brew mechanism, and non-filtered water can impart its taste to the parts of the machine it stays in contact with for protracted periods of time.
The second, relatively minor thing you can do it will help keep stale water from accumulating in the internal tubing.to periodically brew a cup or two without placing a coffee pod in the machine. Not all units will allow you to do this. But if yours does, it
